Celebrated local author Ruth Hogan to visit the Panacea Museum
Ruth reads from her work at the Foster Hill Road Cemetery in Bedford
Ruth Hogan will be giving a talk on her latest book The Light a Candle Society at the Museum, on Saturday 18th April. Ruth will also be discussing her strong connection and deep love for the Foster Hill Road Cemetery. Many Panacea Society Members are buried there, including the founder Mabel ‘Octavia’ Barltrop. There will be plenty of time for audience questions after the talk, along with a chance to meet the author and buy copies of the book, which comes out in paperback on 12th March.
Hogan studied English and Drama at Goldsmiths College before working in local government. Following a car accident and a serious illness, she resolved to pursue her longstanding ambition of becoming a writer. This led to her debut novel, The Keeper of Lost Things, which went on to sell in excess of two million copies worldwide. She is now a full-time author and lives with her husband and rescue dogs in a rambling Victorian house filled with keepsakes that inspire her novels.

The Light a Candle Society centres on George McGlory who witnesses a public health funeral - with the most basic of ceremonies, no flowers and no mourners in attendance, and vows to find a way to celebrate the lives of those who have no one else to remember them.
As George and his friends work to create meaningful and personal memorials, they find themselves confronting the secrets of their own histories, mending broken connections and harnessing the magical kindness of strangers.
