A Few of our Favourite Things:
2. Figures playing croquet on the lawn- painted by John Coghill
A beautiful watercolour with three figures playing croquet on the Panacea Society lawn. I imagine the man might be Peter Rasmussen with two ladies in red and blue dresses and matching hats. The man is wearing a yellow-green jacket. The colours of their clothes are cheerful.
Looking at this watercolour and immersing myself in the Garden of Eden in peaceful bright sunny day, I feel I am with them. Maybe it is early autumn; we can see one yellow tree and red apples on the other tree near lawn. The clock on chapel tower shows five past noon. The players have enough time to enjoy their game.
John Coghill expressed the daily life of the Society in his own interpretation of light and colour…
