This exhibition focuses on Dilys Barltrop, who was the daughter of Mabel Barltrop the leader of the Panacea Society. Dilys was around 7 years old when she moved to Bedford, and from the age of 16 onwards watched as her mother began to believe she was divine and the Daughter of God.
Through video footage and archives located in the Founders House, you can explore the effect that growing up in a religious community had on Dilys. The materials highlight the strain this had of her mental health as she struggled with the responsibility of her position and her social isolation from the rest of the world.
