Octavia died 86 years ago today, at her home- number 12 Albany Road.
She had been feeling unwell but nothing that seemed out of the ordinary. She had written down the ‘daily script’ (messages from God) and had read it aloud at the service in the Chapel on the evening of the 15th.
She was found to have died in her sleep, discovered by Peter Rasmussen when he went in to light the fire. For the ‘inner circle’ members who were present, it was simply impossible that the Daughter of God was gone. They attempted to bring her round, piling on blankets and giving her brandy. A vigil was maintained beside her body, and after she did not rise again on the Third day a coffin was ordered.
Her right-hand woman Emily Goodwin, vessel of The Divine Mother, took over the leadership of the Panacea Society. She addressed the members telling them that Mabel’s ‘spirit took flight’ and that ‘we do not feel she has gone away to stay’.
